Wharton Public Library received a very generous FCC technology grant and has partnered with Google and T-Mobile to provide the residents of Wharton with Chromebooks for FREE. *As of 6/8/23, we are out of Chromebooks for long-term use. A limited number of Chromebooks designated as short-term rentals are still available.
What is a Chromebook? A Chromebook is a user-friendly laptop that uses the Chrome Operating System, rather than Windows or macOS. Otherwise, a Chromebook can do most basic things a regular laptop would do.
Guidelines for borrowing and use:
Must have a valid Wharton Public Library card.
Must be 18 years or older.
Long-term rental Chromebooks will be loaned out for an initial 90-day period. Renewals are allowed.
Chromebooks are CIPA (Children's Internet Protection Act) compliant.
Short-term rental Chromebooks may be checked out for 14 days with up to two renewals. Short-term rentals are subject to a $1/per day late fee.
