LIBRARY DIRECTOR (FULL TIME) - WHARTON PUBLIC LIBRARY
Wharton, NJ
 

We, the Board of Trustees of the Wharton Public Library, are seeking a motivated, community-oriented Library Director to guide the library into next phase of growth, as outlined in its Strategic Plan. We are eager to welcome a new Director who will build and maintain relationships with both community members and officials – but also possess the ability to connect meaningfully with the dedicated staff. The Library Director reports directly to the Library Board of Trustees.

Wharton is a diverse, tight-knit community with a population of approx. 7,200 residents.  It is nestled in Morris County between Randolph Township, Rockaway and Dover communities.  The Wharton Public Library is a member of the MAIN Library Alliance. and has evolved greatly in recent years.  We want to keep this momentum going strong and will rely on the skills and expertise of the new Library Director to enable this to happen.


IDEAL CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS:​
  • ALA-accredited MLIS degree/MLS/NJ Professional Librarian Certificate
  • Professional public library experience – with 2 yrs. minimum in supervisory capacity
  • Current knowledge of library trends, innovations, and developments
  • Ability to work effectively with library trustees, elected officials and community groups
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving and technology skills
  • Outside-the-box thinking when planning library calendar and special programs
  • Proven track record for grant-writing
  • Above par written and verbal communication skills 
  • Experience managing staff of 3+ persons with regard to hiring, scheduling, etc.
  • Creative approach to fundraising, assisting with planning and executing of events
  • Open-mindedness to diversity within Library as well as community.
  • Microsoft office suite knowledge a plus
  • Bilingual/proficiency in Spanish a plus – but not required

In addition, candidate must embrace current technology and have working knowledge of New Jersey library laws. Candidate should be comfortable working within budget guidelines and interfacing kindly and cooperatively with patrons, staff and board members. Knowledge of LEAP/Polaris LIS system is a plus.
