LIBRARY DIRECTOR- WHARTON PUBLIC LIBRARY
Wharton, NJ
 

The Wharton Public Library’s Board of Trustees seeks a forward-thinking, community-oriented Director to guide the library into its next phase of growth, as outlined in its Strategic Plan. The Board of Trustees is eager to welcome a new Director who will help with their vision of the library and will connect meaningfully with our excellent staff as well as our community members. The Library Director reports directly to the Board of Trustees.
Wharton is a diverse, tight-knit community of about 6,500 and is located in Morris County. The Wharton Public Library is a member of the M.A.I.N. consortium.
Required qualifications are:
  • ALA-accredited MLIS degree
  • Professional public library experience, with at least two years serving as a director or similar supervisory capacity
  • Current knowledge of library trends, innovations, and developments
  • Ability to work effectively with library trustees, elected officials, and community groups
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and technology skills
The ideal candidate must embrace current technology, have a working knowledge of New Jersey library laws, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Candidate should be comfortable working with a budget and interfacing cooperatively with patrons, staff, and board members. Knowledge of LEAP/Polaris LIS system is extremely helpful. Duties include organizing and executing fundraising events as necessary, with assistance from the Board of Trustees, and researching grant applications to support the library’s mission.
 
This is a part-time position of approximately 30 hours per week, with flexible scheduling, and paid time off.
